The University of Montana, Environmental Studies Program (EVST), invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to commence autumn, 2006.

EVST is interdisciplinary and known nationally for its public interest, applied, Master of Science (MS) graduate program now in its thirty-fifth year. EVST initiated an undergraduate Bachelor of Arts (BA) in 1999. This position would be teaching both undergraduate and graduate students.

Job Qualifications:

  • The position requires a Ph.D. in Environmental Studies, Political Science, Sociology, Philosophy, Ethics, Economics or Geography completed before August, 2006;
  • demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels;
  • demonstrated research;
  • demonstrated record of public interest service; the ability to teach and develop courses in critical perspectives on globalization, development and trade and the relationship of those processes to sustainability including social justice.
  • We welcome candidates with knowledge of and experience in critical pedagogy and education for social and environmental change.

Desired qualifications include:

  • ability to involve undergraduate and graduate students in research, community service,
  • interest and experience in curriculum design, service learning and civic engagement.

Start Date: August 2006

Referees should assess the applicant's abilities to teach, conduct research and mentor student engagement in environmental affairs and participation in community service, and applicant's interpersonal, communication and citizen engagement skills.
