The Wyoming Geographic Information Science Center (WyGISC) at the University of Wyoming invites applications for the position of Assistant Director, with a joint 9 month academic appointment at the Assistant Research Scientist level in the Department of Geography.

The University of Wyoming is located in Laramie, an engaging, family friendly community of 30,000 in the heart of the Rocky Mountain West. The nearby Medicine Bow and Laramie mountain ranges offer outstanding scenery and abundant year-round outdoor recreation opportunities, while the urban amenities of the Denver metro region are within a 2 hour drive.

Position Overview:

We seek a team-oriented scientist/manager committed to fostering collaborative environments to support WyGISC's mission of advancing knowledge and application of geographic information science and technology in academia, government and business throughout Wyoming, the Rocky Mountain West and beyond.

Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities include proposal writing, research project management, and staff supervision. Also, strategic planning and budgeting for the Center's computing infrastructure, contributions to outreach and technology transfer activities, and assistance to the Director and affiliated faculty in building cross-disciplinary research capacity within WyGISC and across campus. A 1:1 teaching load focused on geospatial techniques for upper-division/graduate students is required, and opportunities exist for professional development through scholarship, training and international collaborations.

Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications include a postgraduate degree in a GI Science-related field, proficiency in the development and application of a wide range of geospatial technologies (proprietary and open source; desktop, mobile, and web), and demonstrated experience in managing some aspect of geospatial-centered research projects (e.g., technical, budgetary, and/or staff).

Preferred qualifications include some combination of the following: depth of experience in leading research teams conducting geospatial-centered research; technical expertise in designing Web-based enterprise GIS architecture solutions; and experience demonstrating ability to obtain external funding, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and successfully teach at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
