Description

Sunseed Desert Technology is currently recruiting a volunteer Appropriate Technology AT Coordinator to start as soon as possible for a year. Sunseed is a British & Spanish project based in Spain, which aims to develop, demonstrate and communicate accessible, low-tech methods of living sustainably in a semi-arid environment.

Position Overview:

The Appropriate Technology (AT) department co-ordinates the maintenance and improvement of community technologies and services at Sunseed. The 2 key areas are sun and water:

  • Renewable electricity generation and consumption, solar water heating, and solar cookers; and
  • Water service provision, maintenance of the ram pump and overseeing a water distribution system.

The co-ordinator supervises volunteers in choosing and carrying out project work and may run courses. They oversee the AT workshop, using recycled and found materials to solve problems in a low-tech and innovative way. Consultation with other departments on issues of materials, new and existing technology and applications is a vital part that AT plays in the project as a whole.

Qualifications:

Please see full details on our website for the Appropriate Technology and general job descriptions before applying.

Compensation: The post is voluntary, accommodation and board are provided, plus a small pocket money allowance. The Appropriate Technology AT Coordinator will live in a small community together with 6 other staff, full and part-time volunteers and short-term visitors on working holidays.

Living and working conditions are basic with little divide between work and life, and the emphasis is on a sustainable lifestyle. The post entails general staff duties as well as the AT work and will include a variety of working hours including weekends and evenings.
