Located in Chico, California, FAFCO is the oldest and largest manufacturer of solar water heating products in the U.S..
Position Overview:
We are looking for an Applications Engineer to design, develop, and support commercial and residential solar water heating systems, commercial and residential solar pool heating systems and commercial thermal energy storage systems.

Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, & Outlook) and Solidworks or Autodesk software.
- Good oral and written communication skills with customers and coworkers. Daily communication with customers over the phone is typical.
- Ability to use power tools, lift 50 lbs, sit at a computer, climb ladders and walk on tall roofs.
Strongly preferred:
- 5 years experience with commercial hydronic system design, installation, and commissioning including thorough knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and components such as pumps, heat exchangers, valves, tanks and piping.
- 5 years experience with solar pool and solar hot water systems including design, installation, and simulation software such as TRNSYS, Retscreen, or Fchart.
- Familiar with major U.S. solar thermal incentive programs including federal tax credit and California's solar thermal program.
- Familiar with mechanical parts, specifying cost effective and appropriate parts, and working with vendors.
- Ability to quickly and effectively build and test prototypes.
- Capable of producing system models and layouts with Solidworks.
- Adobe software including Acrobat, Indesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
- Experience with Bill of Materials, schedules (gantt charts), MRP/ERP systems, and document control processes.
- Ability to proofread and write technical manuals, bulletins, and letters
- Familiar with ASHRAE handbook and standards, SRCC certifications and ratings, AHRI ratings, building codes, EnergyStar, NSF, DOE & NREL publications.
- Structural engineering of roof mounted equipment to meet building code standards including ASCE-07.
- Construction experience including roofing, framing, plumbing, and electrical.
- Data logging and sensors such as temperature sensors, anemometers, and flow meters.
- Experience with plastic manufacturing methods such as injection molding, blow molding, welding, and extrusion.
- A current state professional engineering license or EIT is preferred.
- Experience with giving Powerpoint presentations
- Machining skills including mill & lathe work
- Familiar with books and magazines about renewable energy such as Engineered Systems, Plumbing and Mechanical, SunWindEnergy, SolarToday, and HomePower.
- Knowledge of FAFCO products
