Earth Care is a Santa Fe based non profit organization founded in 2001 whose mission is to educate and empower youth to create healthy, just, and sustainable communities.

Position Overview:

Youth Food Corps (YFP) will be comprised of 11 AmeriCorps positions for young professionals ages 18-24; 8 full-time positions and 3 half-time positions. All 11 members will be co-hosted by Earth Care and Santa Fe Food Project Coalition partner organizations. Members will serve between 12-30 hours per week at their respective service site and 5-10 hours per week at Earth Care with the entire YFC Cadre once a week where they will receive on-going coaching, group support, and professional development.

These exciting intern positions will be placed with Santa Fe non-profits, City and County Government, and Public schools to improve local food system, the environment, and community health. Great opportunity to build professional skills and contribute to the local social change, youth empowerment, and ecological justice movement through the lens of sustainable food.

Responsibilities:

Positions include:

Service-Learning Coordinator, Earth Care (Part-time):

Support Earth Care's service-learning programming throughout the Santa Fe School District. Assist with the training of teachers and student leaders in service-learning project design and implementation and provide resources and coordination support for service-projects focusing on food. Support K-12 educators and student leaders in implementing service-learning projects in throughout the year.

Garden Resource Coordinator, Earth Care (Part-time):

Coordinate Earth Care's Mobile Gardeners Tool shed and resource-sharing programming in a way that supports community and school gardens throughout Santa Fe County and engages youth in sustainable food programming.

Urban Food Intern, City/County of Santa Fe (Part-time):

Support the implementation of sustainable living practices throughout Santa Fe County by focusing on infrastructure and business enterprise development in the areas of food, waste management, and water conservation, catchment, and reuse. This position will work with Sustainable Santa Fe Commission, government staff in the City and County, nonprofits, and business partners to accomplish their goals.

Sustainability Outreach Coordinator, City/County of Santa Fe (Full-time):

This member will develop City programs that support home gardening, sustainability & cost-saving strategies for low-income residents. This person will lead teams, including local youth through various public outreach and education campaigns and provide workshops in composting, food production, seed saving, water harvesting & conservation, and food processing & preserving techniques.

Sustainability Commission & Food Council Intern, City/County of Santa Fe (Full-time):

Assist in supporting sustainability effort throughout Santa Fe by coordinating implementation activities of the Sustainable Santa Fe Commission and projects of the Food Policy Council.

School Food & Sustainability Coordinators (3 positions), Santa Fe Public Schools (Full-time):

School Food & Sustainability Coordinators will work with students, parents, teachers, and administrators at 3-5 elementary, middle, and/or high school sites to coordinate school gardens, improve school lunch programs, and integrate sustainability practices. They will engage students in food & nutrition education, service-learning projects, and provide support for teachers.

Cooking with Kids Educator, Cooking with Kids (Full-time):

Provide food and nutrition education to elementary school children through cooking and tasting classes; support the development of healthy school meals.

Food & Fuels Project Coordinator, Santa Fe Alliance (Full-time):

Assist in the various food and energy programs of the Santa Fe Alliance in order to help forward local food and renewable energy including Farm to Restaurant, Farmer's Energy Service Company, and Community Kitchen Project

Program Associate, Santa Fe Farmer's Market Institute (Full-time):

Assist in expanding the Food Stamp Program for new users at the Farmer's Market and with the Micro Loan Program to farmers and ranchers in northern NM through services, outreach and communications.

Qualifications: 

Eligibility: You must be between the ages of 18-24

Compensation: These are AmeriCorps positions. All positions will receive a Living Stipend and an educational stipend upon completion of service. Full-time AmeriCorps members are also eligible for health care benefits and child care, if needed.
