The Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS) is looking for a full-time AmeriCorps member to fill a service opportunity based at our North Branch Nature Center in Montpelier, Vermont.
VINS is a nonprofit, statewide organization dedicated to protecting Vermont’s natural heritage through education and research designed to engage individuals and communities in the active care of their environment. We are seeking dynamic, motivated applicants who love teaching people about the natural environment and are interested in community service.
AmeriCorps Service Position Environmental Educator Our AmeriCorps member will help with a wide array of diverse projects and programs. The position is split between developing and implementing public and school programs at the North Branch Nature Center in Montpelier, and working half-time with VINS’ statewide Environmental Citizenship program.
Representing VINS in a professional manner;
- Teaching natural history programs to children and adults;
- Leading guided school field trips, nature walks, & visitor programs;
- Helping develop and/or revise educational programs, materials, and displays;
- Developing and implementing special projects of choice;
- Teacher workshop coordination and facilitation;
- Conducting school visits for mini-grant recipients;
- Developing and implementing the Teen River Stewards program;
- Helping to mentor teachers in fieldwork techniques and student citizenship projects;
- Driving to schools and communities around Vermont and in the Upper Valley of New Hampshire;
- Representing VINS at community events and fairs;
