Founded in 1964, Monroe County Community College is a public, two-year institution supported by tax monies from Monroe County, educational funds from the State of Michigan, and student tuition.

Our 210-acre Main Campus is centrally located in Monroe County with easy access to Detroit and Toledo. The Whitman Center, located in Bedford Township near the Michigan-Ohio border, was established in 1991.

Position Overview:

Classroom instruction in Alternative/Renewable Energy Technology in the Industrial Technology Division of the College.  The division is exploring an emphasis on Alternative and Renewable Energy as part of its new program initiative.

Responsibilities: 

  • The candidate will be responsible for developing and teaching courses in one or more areas, which include solar, wind and/or geothermal energy systems, fuel cells or bio-fuels and other sustainable energy at an associate degree level.
  • This individual will primarily be responsible for developing and teaching new and emerging curricula in the alternative energy field.
  • May also be required to support established programs in the division as needed. 
  • Additional responsibilities will include laboratory management and coordination. 
  • As an integral member of the Industrial Technology and Division, this person will be expected to develop effective collegial relationships, work closely with students, work with local employers, convene advisory committees, and take part in the promotion of division programs and the College in general.

Other teaching opportunities within the division may be available depending on background, experience and interest.

Qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical/Electronics Engineering  Technology or equivalent required; Master's Degree in the above fields preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years industrial/professional employment experience in a relevant setting required; background in Electromechanical systems, or Mechanical Engineering/Engineering Technology preferred.
  • Work experience and/or knowledge of operation of Nuclear Power plants a plus.
  • Teaching experience in an educational institution desired.
  • Ability to teach courses in Electronics, Electricity, Mechanical Engineering Technology, and/or Nuclear Engineering Technology strongly desired.
  • Ability to relate to students at the AAS level.

Compensation:  Per Master Agreement - $57,106 base salary. Salary may be negotiated depending upon experience and education. Faculty contract 35-hour week, 165-day school year. Spring/Summer teaching and curriculum development opportunities may be available for additional pay, funds permitting.  Health, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability insurance plans.
