The World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) is a global animal welfare organization whose vision is to create a world where animal welfare matters and animal cruelty has ended. With headquarters in London and offices in 16 cities around the world, WSPA is expanding its US presence by opening an office in New York that will strengthen WSPA's work in the states as well as support programs around the world.
WSPA is launching a multi-decade campaign to fundamentally transform world farming to end the suffering of farm animals. Our Humane and Sustainable Agriculture campaign will initially focus on the egg industry in the U.S. and Canada, encouraging a transition from factory farming to production methods that respect animal welfare and are also environmentally-sound and economically-viable.
Position Overview:
WSPA-USA seeks an energetic and independent Agriculture/Food Supply Chain Analyst to lead and implement research projects on cage free egg production in the U.S. He/she will research and produce comprehensive reports on the economic viability and the environmental and public health benefits of cage free production systems, map the U.S. egg industry supply chain, identify supply management issues and solutions, and research companies that significantly affect egg production. The Agriculture/Food Supply Chain Analyst will also build relationships with experts and organizations focused on agricultural sustainability drawing them in to assist WSPA's goals.
The Agriculture/Food Supply Chain Analyst reports to the U.S. Humane and Sustainable Agriculture Campaign Manager.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have:
- Bachelor's Degree in Animal Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Sustainable Agriculture or a related major required; Master's Degree strongly preferred
- 3-5 years' experience working in retail/food/agricultural management or in researching projects related to sustainable agriculture
- Understanding of the agricultural wholesale and retail food supply chain functions
- Contacts within the food industry (retail/food service preferred) with the ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships
- The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, adhere to timelines and obtain results
- Demonstrated research and writing experience that involves multiple tasks and stakeholders
- Excellent communication with the ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultural and professional backgrounds
- Proficiency in Microsoft office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and web based research skills
Compensation: This is a full-time, New York City-based position. Salary is commensurate with candidate's experience and this position includes generous benefits offered to full-time WSPA employees.
