Description
The Trustees of Reservations preserves, for public use and enjoyment, properties of exceptional scenic, historic, and ecological value in Massachusetts.
Position Overview:
The Agricultural Property Manager ("APM") is seasonal position who works with the Connecticut River Valley Superintendent ("Superintendent"), the Holyoke Education Coordinator, Farm Interns ("Interns") and the Holyoke Youth Conservation Corps ("HYCC") to construct, maintain, and restore fields, trails, structures, and other natural and cultural features. The APM will also coordinate with Nuestras Raices ("NR") Farm staff to manage site-based agricultural, educational, and stewardship programs.
NOTE: This position is NOT a traditional Farm Manager position with responsibilities to manage day-to-day "running a farm" activities. NR has been making and will continue to make the functional managerial decisions relating to the property's agricultural and small animal operations. The precise nature of APM involvement in farm operations will be decided by agreement of the Trustees Superintendent and NR Farm staff.
The Trustees own and manage the Land of Providence at the southern end of Holyoke, on the Connecticut River for natural and scenic resources as well as for access and enjoyment by the community. A local non-profit, NR, leases the property from The Trustees and manages an active urban agriculture program on-site, which includes vegetable farming, and small livestock. The approximately 2 dozen local farmers who operate on the site rent plots from NR.
