The U.S. Green Building Council, a Washington, DC-based national nonprofit organization of over 10,000 corporate and organizational members from every sector of the building industry united to transform the building marketplace to sustainability, is currently seeking a dependable, detail-oriented person with a career interest in green building public policy and advocacy.
Position Overview:
The Advocacy Coordinator will report to the Public Policy Director and provide comprehensive support to the Advocacy program.
The position entails multiple responsibilities related to a public policy advocacy agenda that advances green building practice and market transformation to a sustainable built environment. The ideal candidate has a strong interest in the ongoing programmatic development and operation of an advocacy program, including public policy development and advocacy.
Specific Responsibilities include:
Providing comprehensive support to USGBC's public policy and advocacy activities with the U.S. Congress and federal agencies. Specific tasks include:
- Monitoring legislative, regulatory and policy activities
- Attending and reporting on Congressional hearings and markups; coordinating meetings
- Briefings and receptions
- Coordinating USGBC member visits to Capitol Hill and district offices.
- Providing comprehensive support to the USGBC Codes Committee. Specific tasks include: providing administrative support for Committee meetings and retreats; coordinating Committee elections.
- Coordinating publication of monthly listserv email, newsletter, and other communications vehicles that provide outreach to the federal community, stakeholders and USGBC members about Council activities and green building developments throughout the country.
- Creating and maintaining databases and documents related to the projects and activities of USGBC's Advocacy program.
- Coordinating government-sector and advocacy-related activities held during Greenbuild, USGBC's annual educational conference and exposition. Providing program support for USGBC's Federal Summit, an annual meeting with federal agency and Congressional staff.
Qualifications/Skills:
Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
- Strong analytical and writing skills.
- Ability to handle multiple concurrent responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to adapt and thrive in a rapidly-changing organization.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
