At The Nature Institute, we develop new qualitative and holistic approaches to seeing and understanding nature and technology. Through research, publications, and educational programs we work to create a new paradigm that embraces nature's wisdom in shaping a sustainable and healthy future.

Position Overview: 

We are currently looking for a person to manage the Institute's day-to-day operations and program implementation, and to assist with outreach and development.

It is a half-time position (20 hours per week). The position is to be filled as soon as possible.

Responsibilities: 

a) General administrative tasks:

  • Answer telephone and general emails; forward emails as needed
  • Respond to requests for information, and register participants for programs and events.
  • Database input and retrieval (currently Microsoft Access)
  • Keeping database up-to-date
  • Keep email addresses current and expand email contact list
  • Organize and carry out mailings
  • In Context gets mailed out twice a year to 2000 readers (mailing parties)
  • Fall appeal letter; fall and summer program flyers; summer course brochures
  • Coordinate volunteers

b) Organize and oversee courses, workshops and events:

  • Manage with all aspects of public programs and events
  • Put up posters and distribute flyers; send out email alerts
  • Gather cost estimates from printers, and oversee the production and distribution of all publicity materials
  • Receive and oversee course registrations and tuition payments
  • Organize housing and transportation needs
  • Provide snacks for events (talks, courses); be present to take money/registration when events begin

c) Assist with outreach and development:

(in coordination with our development/outreach staff person) Tasks will vary and may include:

  • Helping with brochure and poster design
  • Sending thank-you notes to donors and sends out receipts
  • Overseeing pledges of individual donors and send out reminders

Qualifications:

  • Highly organized and the ability to prioritize; attention to detail
  • People person
  • Good in working in a small organization
  • Flexible schedule
  • Computer Literacy: Word, Access, Excel, PageMaker are currently used at NI (we will be changing donor/mailing list database software)

Compensation: This is a salaried, half-time position. The annual salary is $17,500. The Nature Institute will pay one-half of the premium for a single person for high-deductible medical insurance and for dental insurance. The position includes 2 weeks of paid vacation per year.
