FSC promotes responsible forest management by developing Forest Management and Chain of Custody standards, authorizing use of the FSC label on forest products, and by educating about FSC certification as a crucial market-based tool for ensuring that the world's forests are protected for future generations.

FSC is experiencing extraordinary growth in demand and now represents an estimated 5% market share of U.S. forest products. FSC competes in diverse markets, such as building materials, paper, packaging, and furniture, and are available at all major national retailers.

Currently over 173 million acres of North American forestland is FSC certified (455 million acres globally). Nearly 5,000 North American companies are certified under FSC's chain of custody standards (over 28,000 globally). 

Position Overview 

The Forest Stewardship Council US National Office (FSC US) seeks a highly motivated professional to oversee the national level administrative functions of FSC US.

This part-time Administrative Manager position (20-25 hrs/wk), based at our Minneapolis headquarters, will oversee general office operations and provide dynamic support to our team.

She/he will be responsible for day-to-day office administration, including assistance to the FSC US President, as well as coordinating a wide range of activities. As the leading office in a global system, the Administrative Manager will work closely with FSC's International Center in Germany and regional offices around the world. 

Responsibilities  

Key responsibilities of this part time position will also include: 

  • Assist FSC US staff by coordinating meetings and events, and other support tasks as needed. 
  • Provide support and coordination for the FSC US Board of Directors.
  • Respond to and direct incoming inquiries and correspondence with specific responsibility for answering all daily information requests by phone and email on a timely basis.
  • Manage the FSC US database platform including but not limited to data entry and analysis.
  • Manage the employee review process.
  • Maintain professional working relationship with FSC International and other FSC Regional and National Offices.
  • Assist in the maintenance and development of the website and newsletter.
  • Assist with bookkeeping and financial accounting activities as assigned by the Finance Director.
  • Act as hiring process manager for new positions.
  • Act as the main point of contact for general office needs.
  • Other tasks as requested by management.  

Qualifications  

  • The successful applicant must be able to work independently and as part of the national team, many of whom work in other areas of the country.
  • She/he must be exceptionally skilled in serving a fast-paced organization and providing exemplary customer service with a wide array of stakeholders.
  • The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational and communication skills, hold an individual commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility, as well as a passion for conservation.
  • She/he should be ambitious and highly self-motivated, with a team-focused spirit and the motivation to help build the capacity and reach of this quickly growing organization.  

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience: 

  • 2-5 years of administrative experience in positions of increasing responsibility.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A professional, customer service mindset, including the ability to be courteous, personable, and tactful when dealing with FSC's full range of stakeholders.
  • Proven organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail, ability to organize time, manage diverse activities and meet deadlines and demonstrated flexibility to changing situations and priorities.
  • Successful experience in developing, directing and managing multiple projects.
  • Must work collaboratively as a team as well as effectively independently.
  • Takes initiative and able to make decisions appropriate to level of position.
  • Demonstrated experience in MS Office, Adobe, Salesforce, Quickbooks and/or other standard business software.  

Preferred qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree and at least 3-5 years related experience or equivalent combination. 
  • Practice an individual commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
  • Experience with graphic design, website management, Google sites, IT support, or other preferred. 

Compensation:  Compensation for this position is commensurate with experience.
