The U.S. Green Building Council, a Washington, DC-based national nonprofit organization of over 14,000 corporate and organizational members from every sector of the building industry united to transform the building marketplace to sustainability, is currently seeking an energetic and enthusiastic individual to serve as a part of the Accounting/Finance team.

The primary function of the Accounts Receivable Specialist is to assist the Accounting Department by performing a variety of accounting duties as assigned. This position is mainly responsible for the cash application of payments for the USGBC's various revenue streams and upkeep of the accounts receivable general ledger accounts.

Responsibilities include:

  • Process all A/R including processing payments, making deposits, refunding customers.
  • Manage the accounts receivable general ledger balances to insure payments are being matched to open orders accurately and timely, and researching why invoices remain open.
  • Maintain the billing inquiries which will include checking status of, cancelling and adjusting orders.
  • Process transfers and substitutions within accounting system for the Education department
  • Participate in month end close process
  • Assist with other duties as requested to support finance and operations department

Related Organizational Goals and Objectives:

  • Accurate and timely application of receipts against open sales orders
  • Research and resolve billing issues
  • Top notch customer service provided when dealing with other departments

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Minimum one year experience in accounting department (nonprofit preferred)
  • Experience performing cash application and accounts receivable functions
  • Detail oriented with the ability to learn quickly and meet deadlines
  • Highly dependable with excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Independent, resourceful, takes initiative
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Bachelors degree preferred
  • Thorough experience with an accounting software package, experience with SAP strongly preferred
  • Appreciation and commitment to mission of USGBC
