Description

The U.S. Green Building Council, a Washington, DC-based national nonprofit organization of over 18,000 corporate and organizational members from every sector of the building industry united to transform the building marketplace to sustainability, is currently seeking an accounting professional to support the Finance Department with all duties associated with accounts payable.

Position Overview: 

The primary function of the Accounts Payable Specialist is to assist the Accounting Department by performing a variety of accounting duties as assigned. This position is responsible for performing accounting clerical duties in the preparation, processing, and maintenance of accounts payable records, and should be fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.    

Responsibilities: 

  • Gather, assemble, tabulate, check and file financial data, maintain financial records, and process documents involved in financial transactions      
  • Maintain and update vendor identification files, contact vendors to facilitate the processing of invoices
  • Process and cut checks for weekly accounts payable reimbursement requests by vendors and employees      
  • Enter accounting codes and key information (Deposits, Invoices, etc.) into accounting database
  • Keep Vice President informed of potential accounting and billing problems      
  • Assist in preparing month-end and year end-financial reports through journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Perform tax filing of 1099's on an annual basis    
  • Responsible for the coding and journalization of the travel card and corporate American Express card activity
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education & Training Requirements/Preferences:

  • Minimum of an Associate's degree, specializing in Accounting or equivalent

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum 1 years of relevant accounting experience
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
  • Working knowledge of accounts payable functions
  • Experience with SAP accounting system
  • Experience with a purchase order system is preferred

  • Very detail-oriented with ability to learn quickly and to meet deadlines      
  • Highly dependable with excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work and communicate with a wide range of people including employees, members, auditors, and vendors
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously      
  • Ability to work well under pressure and/or with frequent interruptions
  • Computer skills that include a fluency in MS Office Suite
  • Commitment to USGBC mission
