The U.S. Green Building Council, a Washington, DC-based national nonprofit organization of over 11,000 corporate and organizational members from every sector of the building industry united to transform the building marketplace to sustainability, is currently seeking a professional highly knowledgeable of academia and green building to advance the USGBC mission through the key goals set by the K-12 and Higher Education Committee, which include:
- Building stronger relationships between academia and USGBC
- Seeking alliances with other potential stakeholders in green building education initiatives.
- Recognizing and rewarding excellence in green building curriculum development
- Supporting the green campus movement
The Academic Programs Manager will work under the direction of the Director of Education and support the work of the K-12 and Higher Education Committee to refine and implement projects that support the committee's key goals.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
- Manage the Excellence in Green Building Curriculum Recognition Awards and Incentive Grants Program
- Manage on-line database of green building curriculum tools and resources
- Liaise with other programs including LEED for Schools, Higher Education Market sector, and Emerging Green Builders committee
- Liaise with collateral organizations to maintain strategic relationships
- Plan and manage the Educator Summit at the Greenbuild Conference & Expo
- Coordinate other Greenbuild K-12 and Higher Education activities
- Provide support for committee conference calls and meetings
- Prepare appropriate communications on program status
- Liaise with LEED for School, Higher Education and Emerging Green Builders committee as needed
- Represent USGBC at appropriate conferences and events relating to K-12 and Higher Education.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Minimum 5 years professional experience
- Bachelors degree in relevant field (building industry, education, etc.)
- Background in teaching or research preferred
- Experience working with member-based non-profit organizations
- Project management experience, awards or grants management experience a plus
- Knowledge of web resource management
- Experience working with volunteers preferred
- Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks
- Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational and computer skills
- Commitment to USGBC Mission
