~ The Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies (HRI) at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is the only marine research institute dedicated solely to advancing the long-term sustainable use and conservation of the world’s ninth-largest body of water. ~

Established in 2001, HRI integrates outstanding scientific research with public policy to provide international leadership in generating and disseminating knowledge about the Gulf of Mexico ecosystem and its critical role in the economies of the North American region. Organized around its unique “Harte Model,” the institute encourages interdisciplinary collaboration between its nine specialty research areas to employ a holistic approach in addressing large-scale ecosystem problems, and recognizes that people and the environment are inexorably linked in their solution — a vision that makes HRI unique in the community of marine science institutes.

Position Overview

The HRI for Gulf of Mexico Studies at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi invites applications for an HRI Chair for Ecosystem Science & Modeling. We seek an ecosystem scientist with a distinguished record of research that addresses pressing environmental issues in marine and coastal ecosystems.

We are particularly interested in candidates with strong ecosystem modeling capabilities, although we will give equal consideration to candidates with expertise in other areas of ecosystem science.

The position is tenure-eligible at the Associate or Full Professor level in either the Department of Life Sciences or Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences. Applicants are expected to have qualifications that are commensurate with Associate or Full Professor rank.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in Marine Science or related field.
  • An established reputation in the field of coastal and marine ecosystem science, ongoing applied and basic research that is relevant to issues in the Gulf of Mexico, a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals, and evidence of significant external funding.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong ecosystem modeling capabilities, although equal consideration will be given to candidates with expertise in other areas of ecosystem science.
