Position Overview

Pennsylvania College of Technology has an opening for a faculty position in Forestry.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct and evaluate students in the areas of forest utilization, sawmilling, forest mensuration, harvesting, surveying, GPS/GIS, dendrology, forest botany, forest protection, recreation, ecology, silviculture, and wildlife. (Essential)
  • Develop, coordinate, and supervise laboratory and field experience activities. (Essential)
  • Advise, schedule, and maintain accurate records on students. (Essential)
  • Maintain office hours according to contractual guidelines. (Essential)
  • Write and update course syllabi; assist with curriculum review, revision, and development. (Essential)
  • Engage in professional development and technological upgrading activities. (Essential)
  • Contribute to betterment of College through School committee participation. (Essential)
  • Contribute to betterment of College through College-wide committee participation. (Marginal)
  • Assist with the preparation of grant proposals and follow-up activities. (Marginal)
  • Develop and maintain industry contacts. (Essential)
  • Assist students with identifying employment opportunities. (Essential)
  • Assist with advising days and program recruitment activities. (Essential)
  • Participate in Outcomes Assessment activities and Program Review. (Essential)

Special Job Features:

  • Duties may include some regular evening classes.
  • Assignment will be located at the Earth Science Center and field experience in the surrounding community.
  • Finalists for this position must present a sample lesson.

  • The terms and conditions of employment for this position are subject to all the provisions of the bargaining agreement between Pennsylvania College of Technology and the Penn College Education Association.

Qualifications

Abilities and Skills:

  • Competence in oral and written communications. (Minimum)
  • Ability to produce targeted outcomes while involving students and supporting the learning process. (Minimum)
  • Sensitivity to the expectations of students, faculty, staff, advisory committee, and supervisor. (Minimum)
  • Demonstrated success in the field of forestry and command of the subject area. (Minimum)
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license. (Minimum)

Education:

  • Master’s Degree in Forestry or related discipline, OR, Bachelor’s degree and enrollment in an approved program of study with a formal education plan leading to a Master’s degree in a related discipline to be completed within three (3) years. (Minimum)
  • SAF accredited or CFAB/BCAF accredited bachelor’s or higher degree. (Desired)

Experience:

  • Five (5) years of practical work experience in the forestry or wood products industry. (Minimum)
  • College/university teaching experience. (Desired)

Compensation

  • Commensurate with credentials submitted as applied to the College’s Faculty Salary System.
  • As a point of reference, the salary range for new full-time faculty hired in various disciplines throughout the College for the 2018/19 academic year is $55,665 to $73,384.

Additional Information

  • The wages, hours, and terms and conditions of employment for full-time teaching faculty, counselors and librarians (all regular College funded positions and certain grant/contract funded positions) are determined by the negotiated Agreement between Pennsylvania College of Technology and the Penn College Education Association.
