Each student in our district has a personal iPad or laptop. Students in grades 3-12 can take their devices home. We lead our students into becoming critical thinkers so they can solve real-world challenges. This is accomplished through problem-based learning in an inspiring collaborative learning environment.
Position Overview
- Rowan-Salisbury Schools has an opening for an Outdoor Educator/Naturalist.
- Term of Employment: 12 month position.
Responsibilities
- Align STEM and Outdoor Learning experiences with Common Core and Essential Learning Standards to enhance classroom learning
- Maintain inventory, clean, refurbish and store materials related to STEM and Outdoor Learning experiences
- Maintain safety materials and equipment, including SDS documentation, proper storage of chemicals, fire extinguishers and first aid kits for teaching areas
- Manage communication with participating schools and community groups to include Program Descriptions and Distribution, Curriculum Alignment, Scheduling Information, Data Base of Participants, Online Support and Public Relations
- Manage and coordinate general care of Animal, Rainforest and Aquaria Exhibits/Displays
- Trail and Wetland Maintenance, Refurbishment and Long-Term Care Planning
- Coordinate and contact with public officials and community partners related to outdoor education
Qualifications
- Environmental Education background or NCEE Certification
- Minimum 3 years formal/informal education experience
- Background in Interpretation* Preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent interpersonal, Presentation, Organizational, Communication, Leadership and Supervision
Skills Required:
- Ability to Develop Quality Educational Programs and Activities Required
- Strong Technology Skills Required
- Ability to Relate Positively with the General Public and Interact Effectively with Teachers, Students and Horizons Unlimited Staff Members Required
- CPR and First Aid Certification Required
- Bus/CDL Endorsement Preferred
Special Conditions:
- Must be able to travel to other RSS Sites for Programming
- Obtain/Maintain NCEE Certification
- Supervise and perform trail maintenance
- Interpreters connect visitors to important natural, cultural, and historical resources at parks, nature centers, historical sites, aquariums, zoos, and anywhere that people come to learn about places
