Position Overview

Chestnut Hill College invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor in Biology, with a 2019 Fall Semester starting date. Chestnut Hill College, founded by the Sisters of Saint Joseph, is an independent, Catholic institution that fosters excellence by providing a holistic education within a strong liberal arts tradition.

The Biology Department faculty is composed of dedicated, caring individuals who are experts in their respective biological and clinical disciplines. The Department has strong alliances with local biomedical and research institutes offering the opportunity for internships involving cutting-edge research for qualified students.

The Department is seeking a broadly trained ecologist/environmental scientist to teach introductory and upper-level courses in these specific areas which currently includes: Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Freshwater Ecology, Terrestrial Ecology, Marine Biology, Evolution and Conservation and Restoration. Experience with GIS is highly desirable as is a proficiency in the application of statistical methods. Experience in mentoring undergraduate students in research is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 24 credit hours in the academic year.
  • Engage in scholarly activities in keeping with the Boyer Model of Scholarship.
  • Participate in service to the Biology Department, the college, and to their profession.
  • Assist with course revisions and curriculum development.
  • Assist, advise, and mentor students in course selection, career development, and research pursuits.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Ecology/Environmental Sciences or closely related fields.
