Position Overview
Ca’Momi is presently looking for a Garden Manager to oversee farming at our Ca’Momi Farm in Carneros, in direct support of our downtown Osteria. Because our gardening practices are 100% organic, it is critical that we find someone with experience in (and a passion for!) organic gardening.
Responsibilities
- Develop seasonal garden plan, to be approved by our Chef
- Follow seasons for Sunset Zone 14
- Vegetable & Plant selection will be based on restaurant needs as listed by restaurant BOH Manager and Chef
- Consider Crop Rotation and companion planting
- Consider planting schedule to ensure harvest is extended throughout season (e.g. weekly harvest vs. one-time harvest)
- Perform daily labor including but not limited to; seeding, planting, weeding, tilling, spoil prep, mulching, harvesting
- Deliver harvested vegetables, fruits, herbs and flowers to restaurant
- Maintain garden supplies with regular pre-season inventory
- Maintain farming equipment and schedule maintenance as needed
- Maintain records; including seasonal garden plan, garden journal, inventory, maintenance records, harvest logs, work orders
- Maintain flowers, bushes, trees, and shrubs including pruning
- Recognize disease and inspect problems, and implement organic controls to resolve problems
- Recognize pest issues including but not limited to vegetable plants, property landscape and rodents; implement organic, humane controls to relieve problems
- Maintain and repair irrigation
- Care for garden animals; feed chickens, refill water, manage bedding, clean nest boxes, collect eggs, clean eggs and deliver to restaurant
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Knowledge of organic horticulture methods and materials, landscaping, cultivation and trees
- Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures, including both oral and written instructions
- Ability to work comfortably outside in all weather
- Ability to lift up to 60lbs regularly and carry over moderate distances
- Ability to safely operate motor vehicles including; personal vehicle, company vehicles, farm and landscaping equipment
- Ability to read, understand and follow safety procedures, including heat safety standards, etc.
- Knowledge of fertilizer, compost, and mulch applications
- Ability to manage time efficiently and work independently with minimal supervision
- Must be insurable as a driver (for company insurance)
Compensation
- Salary: $20.00 to $24.00 /hour
