Description

~ The Maine Conservation Corps (MCC) was established by Maine's governor and legislature in 1983 and since then has recruited and placed hundreds of members who have accomplished countless natural resource projects all over Maine. ~

Since 1993 the MCC has supported the goals of AmeriCorps with our members Getting Things Done, Strengthening Communities, Encouraging Responsibility, and Expanding Opportunities by accomplishing the following:

  • Constructing and maintaining sustainable trails on state, federal and public lands.
  • Working on community conservation and environmental service projects.
  • Building relationships and serving with community partners.
  • Developing the values of citizenship, civic engagement, and personal responsibility.
  • Studying natural and environmental sciences and ecological and conservation issues.
  • Teaching environmental and conservation education in schools and in the community.
  • Recruiting and managing hundreds of volunteers to support projects that improve and impact trails, watersheds, air quality, and service opportunities for Maine's youth.
  • Enhancing personal development through job skills training, team building, service learning and modeling an ethic of service to the community.

Position Overview

  • Live, serve, and explore Maine’s wilderness, coast and mountains with Maine Conservation Corps.
  • Field Team Members serve in teams of three to six, using traditional construction and maintenance skills to enhance hiking, biking, skiing, and other types of recreational trails throughout the state.
  • Learn how to highline a 500-pound boulder to construct a stone staircase, build timber structures, or open access to treasured natural areas.
  • You’ll make a difference in local communities, while connecting to nature, peers and yourself. Build a path, while finding yours. 

Qualifications

  • Field Team Members will participate in job readiness training, covering essential hard and soft skills, and will complete conservation projects as part of a team.
  • You can expect to serve on physically challenging conservation projects in any kind of weather, gaining hands on experience in the groundwork of stewardship. 
  • The Team Member position requires a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, the ability to live and serve collaboratively in a team setting, and the physical ability to carry out the essential functions of the position.

Compensation

  • Team Members are 675 hour AmeriCorps members who will receive a weekly living of $270 (less taxes).
  • Other benefits include a wide range of training and networking opportunities, housing during training, pro-deals, a Maine State Park Pass, and an education award of $2,255.24.
