Position Overview

Responsibilities

General Responsibilities:

  • Consult with principals, technical experts, and supervisor on routine and moderately complex environmental assessment and remediation projects.
  • Apply increasing training, experience and proficiency in the application of technical practices and regulatory requirements in carrying out daily work assignments.
  • Assignments may involve preparation of proposals and project budgets, the collection of data through field observation, monitoring, and research, solicit, select, and direct the work of sub-consultants for biological and archaeological services, logging and sampling of environmental soil borings, installation and sampling of soil vapor probes, installation and sampling of groundwater monitor wells, use of field instrumentation, collection and shipment of soil, groundwater, surface water and vapor samples for laboratory analysis, data evaluation, writing and editing technical reports, budget tracking, preparation of invoices, and supervision of field technicians.

Functions & Duties:

  • Performs reconnaissance, field observations, field data collection and documentation or other field assignments.
  • Works around drill rigs, excavators or other heavy equipment in field during investigations and installation of groundwater and soil vapor monitoring wells.
  • Prepares proposals and cost estimates, evaluates data, prepares draft figures, data tables and reports, tracks project budgets, and prepares draft invoices.
  • Participates in training programs for career development and increased proficiency in safety, project management, field methods and standard practices.
  • May direct the work of technicians, field crew, or drilling crew as necessary.
  • May monitor, oversee, and perform verification testing for the implementation of abatement work by independent contractors or subcontractors.
  • Interact with the clients, legal professionals, and regulatory agencies to devise, implement and satisfy permitting and project-related government approvals.
  • Manage existing client relationships, participate in sales and marketing efforts to expand clientele, may participate in the addition or development of complimentary services.
  • Overnight and extended travel may be required with this position.

Qualifications

Skills / Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to prepare reports using Microsoft Office suite.

Education / Experience:

  • BS Degree or higher in environmental engineering, environmental science or other physical science.
  • Consulting work specific to environmental or engineering disciplines, to include due diligence activities, Underground Storage Tank characterization / remediation, remedial investigations of petroleum and hazardous substances, delivery of building science studies to include asbestos, lead, and indoor air quality, regulatory compliance and permitting activities, and risk assessments.
  • Special consideration is given to candidates with demonstrated experience and ability with the National Environmental Policy Act requirements, and the scoping and completion of environmental assessments and categorical exclusions, particularly as required by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Federal Communications Commission, and the Department of Transportation.

Licenses & Registrations:

  • A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • OSHA 40-Hour Hazardous Waste Site Operations Training.
  • Asbestos and/or Lead certifications preferred but not required.
  • Preference given to individuals with a professional registration (Professional Engineer or Registered Geologist) or In-Training designation.
