At the same time, we work to elevate and promote the work of the Alliance and its programs to our members, funders and other key stakeholders.

Position Overview

The Northeast Program Coordinator position offers an exciting opportunity to play a vital role for the Northeast Program of the Land Trust Alliance, providing program and administrative coordination and assistance to help ensure the delivery of quality programs for the northeast region, especially focused on New York, All-Volunteer Land Trusts, Community Conservation and Training program areas. This position is a full-time (37.5 hours/week), permanent position. The Northeast Program Coordinator is managed by the Northeast Director.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

New York Program: Communications and Training Support (40%):

  • Support the New York Program Manager in coordinating and implementing the New York Program, especially focused on online communications, training logistics, the annual state conference, periodic events and webinars.
  • Strategize and seek input from others on topics and instructors for annual conference, statewide meetings, specific webinar trainings and workshops.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with consultants and contractors in the region as well as identify new consultants and technical assistance providers on an ongoing basis. Coordinate associated contracts and reporting requirements.
  • Interact by phone and email to triage information requests and provide excellent customer support to land trust members and stake holders.

All-Volunteer Land Trust Program: Recordkeeping Program Coordination (20%):

  • Manage promotion and administrative aspects of the All-Volunteer Land Trust recordkeeping programs in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut, including overall coordination among our state land trust association partners.
  • Process land trust applications when received, reviewing applications for completeness, following up with land trusts if items are missing, and formatting all applications for review and evaluation process.
  • Manage application evaluation process with state land trust association partners to determine who will receive recordkeeping services.
  • Provide support in the application and reporting process for land trusts that apply for and receive recordkeeping support services.
  • Coordinate contracts of consultants retained to deliver recordkeeping services, including coordination of contract drafting and approval, check requests and consultant reporting.
  • Ensure the entry and accuracy of all information in the Foundant grants management database as needed.

Training/Mentoring Support: Chesapeake Land & Water Program, Land & Climate Program and other activities across the Northeast (35%):

  • Support delivery of face-to-face trainings, ask-the-expert calls and webinars by assisting program staff in identifying and securing trainers, coordinating contracts and payments, scheduling and promoting events and providing periodic onsite support at trainings where needed.
  • Coordinate training and event logistics as needed across the region, including securing meeting space, food and beverages, managing registration and other related activities.
  • Coordinate contracts for Community Conservation coaching and mentoring activities in northern New England, including coordination of contract drafting and approval, check requests and consultant reporting.
  • Work closely with state land trust association partners across the region identifying workshop topics and coordinating Alliance staff trainers and logistics associated with participation in annual state land trust conferences. Participate in state conferences periodically.
  • Provide general support and build relationships with Alliance land trust members in the northeast via personalized instruction on the Learning Center, fostering peer-to-peer connections, responding to information requests, and sharing National tools and resources.
  • Attend and assist with Rally: The National Land Conservation Conference (link is external) hosted annually by the Alliance in a different U.S. locations. Other periodic travel may be required.

General Support (5%):

  • Serve as a Northeast Program liaison with the Alliance national communications team.
  • Support the organization and maintenance of electronic information for the Northeast Program, including in our organizational databases.
  • Participate on ad hoc internal teams to improve organizational efficiency.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and take notes for program meetings, including team program planning and cross-departmental meetings.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.


  • At least 3 years of professional experience, with clearly demonstrated experience and skills related to the performance of the job responsibilities.
  • Specialized training/certification or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Computer proficiency (familiarity with Microsoft Office, including Excel spreadsheets, and database programs required).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong skills in database management.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to manage and track projects and ensure follow-through on project tasks.
  • Ability to understand and track financial information, including budgets.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively without daily supervision.
  • Flexibility, creativity, and sense of humor.
  • Ability to function as supporting member of energetic and fast-moving team.
  • Knowledge of land conservation and/or land trusts helpful.
  • Enthusiasm for the Alliance and its programs.
