HGL provides environmental engineering, remediation, and construction services, as well as Military Munitions Response Program support to the U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Department of Energy, and other federal and state government clients.

Position Overview

HGL has a position open for a mid-level (Staff) Scientist within its growing Phoenix, AZ Operation. While the base office is in Phoenix the work covers a variety of locations around the country. This is a high visibility position with potential to be a career changer in a growing office/company.

Responsibilities

  • HGL is looking for an experienced professional to support various Performance Based Remediation (PBR) contracts, and multiple 10-year nationwide EPA contracts.
  • The work requires full-service environmental investigation, design, and remediation services.
  • Technical support and/or supervision of a variety of project tasks and other staff may be required.
  • Must be able to execute multiple projects and tasks concurrently.

  • The position will be responsible for directing environmental investigations, document preparation, and remediation construction services under the direction of the project and installation managers.
  • Must be a team-oriented person willing to conduct a variety of office and field assignments and have strong report writing skills for the evaluation of investigative and remediation results.
  • Travel, overtime and moderate physical work will routinely be required.

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Excellent communication and organization.
  • Strong technical writing and documentation.
  • Working with and maintaining confidential information.
  • Working under detailed quality assurance/quality control programs.
  • Must have environmental field investigation experience.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office applications. MS Project and MS Power Point are routinely used.

Required Experience:

  • A minimum of 4+ years of related work experience. 
  • Performance and/or oversight of field activities.
  • Demonstrated report writing skills.
  • Experience with environmental site operations.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with RCRA, CERCLA, DoD, DoE, or USEPA projects.
  • Demonstrated history of initiative, motivation, and creative problem solving.
  • Attention to detail.

Required Education:

  • Minimum of a BA/BS degree in a field related to Environmental Studies such as; Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Soil Science, or Chemistry.

Required Qualifications:

  • We are specifically seeking people who want to learn, grow their skill sets, and take on more responsibility.
  • They may be required to pass the installation security checks and to possess or obtain an OSHA HAZWOPER certification upon employment.
  • Good physical health and the ability to work on site in all types of weather conditions and the ability to lift up to 30 pounds in order to perform field tasks is required.

  • A pre-hire drug test and a fit for duty baseline physical will be required.
  • Position requires U.S. citizenship due to contract obligations.
