Position Overview

The Environmental Engineer, Gulf Coast District will work as a strategic partner with operations, provide skilled services to achieve desired environmental management priorities for our Southwest Division quarries, rail distribution facilities, and ready mix concrete operations.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to local, state and federal permitting, environmental protection plan development, employee training, regulatory and corporate policy compliance and ongoing improvement related to air/water/land quality, wetlands, floodplains, water appropriation and associated environmental media.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Prior experience with environmental compliance responsibilities in the construction materials industry is preferred
  • Strong background in air and water permitting, testing/sampling, recordkeeping, and reporting preferred
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills, problem solving, and leadership capabilities are critical
  • Excellent analytical and judgment skills; Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Resourceful, able to quickly and effectively research topics and answer questions
  • Compile, analyze and report Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, ACAD applications, and GIS
  • High standard of ethics, integrity, and trust; good judgment
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, customer service and housekeeping
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Superb time management skills with ability to coordinate multiple tasks in a fast-paced multimedia environment
  • Willingness and ability to travel overnight throughout Texas and Oklahoma (~20% overnight travel)
  • Bilingual skills are a plus

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Mining Engineering, and Environmental Science, Geology or closely related discipline or equivalent experience required
  • 2+ years' experience in the construction materials industry preferred (i.e. mining or manufacturing/industrial facility)

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate in the English language
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time (up to 8 hrs.), stand, walk, stoop and bend
  • Must have manual dexterity to use hand tools, and be able to see and hear
  • Ability to pass required physical examination and drug screens
  • Ability to walk on all types of surfaces (uneven and /or slippery ground)
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders as high as 100 feet in elevation
  • Ability to climb on equipment to provide supervision during work and ensure proper maintenance is being performed
  • Ability to operate the Company vehicle for a minimum of 8 hours per day including entering and exiting the vehicle frequently; occasional overnight travel required

Working Conditions:

  • Work indoors in air-conditioned environment and outdoors in all weather conditions heat, cold, wet, dry and/or dusty
