~ Loon Echo Land Trust (LELT), a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization founded in 1987, protects, manages and monitors 6,200 acres of land and 28 miles of multi-use trails in seven towns (Bridgton, Casco, Denmark, Harrison, Naples, Raymond, Sebago) in the northern Sebago Lake region of Maine for the benefit of current and future generations. ~

Loon Echo conserves and maintains this land and multi-use trail systems for the benefit of the public.  These important open spaces protect the region’s water resources, wildlife habitat, working farms and forests, scenic views, provide recreational opportunities and maintain rural character.

Position Overview

  • LELT is searching for a dynamic and effective Executive Director (ED) to provide leadership, strategy and vision to enable LELT to achieve its mission to permanently conserve and steward land.
  • The ED reports to, and is supported by the LELT Board of Directors.
  • The ED oversees three part-time staff members, six standing committees, and many community volunteers.

Responsibilities

  • The ED directs land acquisition activities and plays a significant role in the donor development program and capital campaigns for land and easement purchases.
  • The ED is responsible for leading the creation of LELT’s annual operating budget, overseeing compliance with the budget, and financial record keeping.
  • The ED must effectively supervise and direct the support staff and key volunteers, as well as provides support and direction to Board members in a friendly, cooperative work environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field preferred.
  • Leadership work experience in land conservation and non-profit administration.
  • Strong project management skills and experience in real estate and acquisition of properties and conservation easements.
  • Experience leading one or more capital campaigns and major gift solicitations.
  • Capability to effectively establish long-term plans and see ambitious goals to fruition.
  • Knowledge of land use planning, best management practices and recreational planning.
  • A high level of motivation, excellent work ethic and time management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in personnel management.
  • Knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft software and QuickBooks.
  • Ability to implement Land Trust Alliance’s Standards and Practices and maintain land trust accreditation status.

Compensation

  • The ED position is an exempt, salaried position with compensation commensurate with experience plus health, vacation and retirement benefits.
