Natural Scientist, tenure-track Assistant Professor

Position Overview

The Environmental Studies Department at Wofford College seeks a natural scientist to join our multidisciplinary team of faculty as a tenure-track Assistant Professor. Candidates should have a Ph.D. awarded by September 2019 when the position begins. Applicants with expertise in climate systems, natural resources, or ecology are particularly welcomed.

Candidates are expected to be teacher-scholars with a high aptitude and interest in undergraduate teaching, a commitment to the liberal arts, and a desire to involve undergraduates in scholarship. The teaching load includes 2 4-credit field/laboratory courses each semester and a 4-week January focused-study Interim term.

Responsibilities

• The successful candidate will teach an introductory Earth Systems science course, a course focused on quantitative methods and models in Environmental Studies (including GIS), and upper level courses within their specialty area. 
• All department faculty teach our interdisciplinary introductory seminar, capstone courses, and senior seminar from time to time, and we mentor a range of senior capstone projects that reflect the diverse interests of environmental studies students.
• The new faculty member will actively engage in the department’s valued tradition of field studies and experiential education.
• Demonstrated experience and enthusiasm for interdisciplinary teaching and research will be valued in the search process.
• The ideal candidate will also embrace the collaborative spirit that characterizes the college.
