~ The Department of Forestry and Natural Resources is one of fourteen academic departments in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environment. ~

It was established in 1969 with primary responsibility for academics, extension, and research programs in forest and wildland natural resources. The faculty of the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources are located on the Lexington Campus in the T.P. Cooper Building and at the Robinson Substation in Quicksand, KY.

Additional facilities at Robinson Forest (in Breathitt, Knott and Perry Counties) and the Wood Utilization Center (Quicksand, KY) support academic programs of the department. The faculty within the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources represent a diverse array of disciplines and programs. 

Position Overview

The Department of Forestry and Natural Resources is currently seeking a faculty member at the Assistant Professor rank. The successful candidate will be expected to evaluate stakeholder and forest health needs to develop effective extension programs using a wide range of educational tools and to develop appropriate strategies to address forest health-related issues; acquire extramural funding to support extension programming; publish extension numbered publications and peer-reviewed publications, contribute to applied research; and build, maintain, and lead effective partnerships with aligned agencies, organizations and practitioners.

Responsibilities

  • The candidate will work in an interdisciplinary environment with faculty, staff, and extension professionals within the Cooperative Extension Service and will be required to build collaborative efforts to address tree health issues in forest, woodland, and urban ecosystems.
  • The position will lead the Forest Health Research and Education Center’s Outreach and Education Team, and contribute to the Kentucky Forest Health Task Force and the Kentucky Spirits Research Institute.
  • The position is 70% extension, 30% teaching.
  • Candidates must demonstrate an understanding of how to apply science to address critical ecological, economic, and social issues associated with forest health.
  • Responsibilities will also include both undergraduate and graduate instruction in the Department and support of the Natural Resources and Environmental Science undergraduate program.
