Description

For the Summer of 2005, New American Dream is looking for 3 full-time (4 days, 32 hours per week) interns.

Interns help New Dream fulfill its mission of working with individuals, communities, and institutions to establish sustainable practices that will ensure a healthy planet for future generations. Interns are expected to have an interest, knowledge, and/or experience in issues related to sustainable consumption, the environment, or social justice.

Applicants are also expected to have a sense of humor, integrity, and subscribe to our philosophy of "More Fun, Less Stuff." College or graduate students are preferred. Each intern will have some general administrative responsibilities (no more than 1/3 of time spent in the office) but will work largely in their respective area of assignment.

Summer interns will work with one or two program directors in a variety of capacities based on our current program needs. Our goal is to find a mutually satisfying arrangement that helps us reach our goals and matches your skills and interests. Work could range from communications work, fundraising assistance, outreach initiatives, research and writing for our web and print resources, and technical research for our institutional purchasing program.

The summer internships will be unpaid positions, however New American Dream will reimburse for commuting expenses via public transportation and include a small per diem. We are currently investigating some reduced-rate or free housing options with DC-area members. We understand that an unpaid internship can be a financial burden and we are working to alleviate that barrier to participation.

Positions are generally run from June to August. Applications accepted and reviewed on an ongoing basis, and we hope to finalize our selections by mid-late April.
