More than 18,000 register for credit classes each year, and thousands more enroll in Economic and Community Development classes. WCC’s diverse student body includes more than 1,000 students from over 100 foreign countries.
WCC’s small classes allow for lots of individual attention. The average class size is 23 students. That’s a fraction of the size of many basic classes at four-year colleges and universities. WCC also emphasizes convenience. It offers classes seven days a week, at night, and online. And transferring is easy because WCC has agreements with four-year schools throughout Michigan.
Position Overview
Washtenaw Community College is currently seeking a candidate to fill the position, Professional Faculty, Environmental Science.
Responsibilities
- Teach first and second year college-level lecture and laboratory courses in Environmental Science.
- Teach a diverse student body in daytime, evening, and Saturday classes on the main campus, at extension centers, and business and industry sites.
- Participate actively in department, division and general faculty meetings, applicable College committee activities, and in other areas of College service.
- Prepare Environmental Science instructional materials.
- Participate actively in professional activities such as, but not limited to, curriculum and assessment planning, syllabus writing, examination development, program evaluation and revision, textbook selection, and other professional planning activities on a year-round basis as specified in the faculty contract.
- Maintain an active program of professional development related to institutional objectives.
- Utilize technology for teaching and testing. (Blackboard, PowerPoint. etc.)
- Participate actively in departmental duties and assume the role of lead instructor for Environmental Science.
- The duties of the lead instructor may include, but are not limited to, mentoring part time faculty, coordinating curriculum and assessment activities, coordinating lab activities and overseeing the implementation of lab policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in biological, environmental or geo science OR master’s degree in a related field with minimum 18 graduate credits in the above disciplines.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching through the equivalent of two years of full time teaching experience at the post-secondary level, preferably at the community college level.
Compensation: $57,491-$75,010
