Position Overview

The Manufacturing Group at Haley & Aldrich is growing and we are currently seeking an entry-level Environmental Scientist/Geologist/Engineer to support the investigation and remediation of contaminated sites mainly in the northeast and primarily in the New Jersey and New York metropolitan areas.

The successful candidate will work under the direction and supervision of senior staff; however, should be a self-motivated problem solver with high attention to detail, and capable of working with minimal direction to solve problems and prepare technically accurate documents as independently as possible. This is a full-time position in our Parsippany, NJ office.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Perform site reconnaissance to observe existing conditions, assess site access for subsurface explorations, and identify important site features; additional activities may include the operation and maintenance of remediation equipment and/or construction monitoring.
  • Oversee subsurface exploration activities that include the use of borings and test pits to observe conditions and gather soil and bedrock samples.
  • Conduct field investigations, including soil, groundwater and air sampling in accordance with applicable Field Sampling Procedures and other industry standard guidelines.
  • Conduct routine data collection, synthesis, and analysis using approved procedures appropriate for their discipline.
  • Document project-related activities.
  • Assist in identifying technical issues and approaches for evaluation.
  • Perform historical site document reviews.
  • Review and apply applicable regulations and guidance documents, as appropriate.
  • Support preparation of written reports, proposals, cost estimates, and other client deliverables.
  • Must comply with the Guiding Principles and Code of Behavior articulated in our Company Charter.
  • Perform all work in accordance with company and client Health & Safety protocols.

Qualifications

  • Must have minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Engineering or related discipline; Master’s degree is highly preferred.
  • 0-3 years of related work experience.
  • Experience with or knowledge of New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Site Remediation (NJDEP) regulations/guidance and the Field Sampling Procedures Manual a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with Soil Classification methodologies a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Has or applies for initial professional certification in their core discipline, where applicable, such as PG, RG or equivalent.
  • Must possess strong computer skills including proficiency in industry standard software (e.g., Microsoft Word and Excel, and Adobe Acrobat at a minimum, and preferably gINT).
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must have a reliable form of transportation to travel to job sites and the office.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to job sites and on temporary out-of-town assignments as needed.
  • OSHA 40-hr. HAZWOPER training preferred but not required.
