Position Overview

ERM is currently seeking qualified applicants for a Field Ecologist in the central Texas area. This is a temporary, field-based position that begin in April 2018 through the summer, with potential for additional work throughout the year.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct habitat assessments for listed bird and other species.
  • Collect field data.
  • Data entry and GPS use.
  • Survey report compilation.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.
  • Perform extensive fieldwork on potentially difficult terrain during adverse weather conditions on field assignments ranging from several days to months at a time; travel time is estimated to be up to 80 percent of work time during the field season.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA degree in natural science field of study.
  • Minimum 1 field seasons of habitat or species surveys in Texas.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to identify regional vegetation preferred.
  • Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions and on challenging terrain.
  • Ability to work weekends and over 40 hours per week.
  • Ability to work in the field for extended periods of time.
  • Working knowledge of sub-meter accuracy GPS technologies and map interpretation skills (e.g., NWI, USGS, aerial photography).
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Must have the ability to pass a background check and drug testing.
