~ The Mission of The Environmental Learning Centers of Connecticut (ELCCT) is to inspire the appreciation and enjoyment of nature, through education and conservation, fostering a healthy environment and an improved quality of life. ~

ELCCT educates 30,000 school children annually, runs a summer day camp, owns 640 acres of wildlife habitat, and operates the Indian Rock Preserve and Barnes Nature Center. ELCCT also operates a small farm and maintains a collection of reptiles, amphibians, birds of prey and farm animals.

Position Overview

The Environmental Learning Centers of Connecticut, a non-profit environmental education and conservation organization located in west central Connecticut, is seeking a dynamic Director of Education (DoE) to guide the growth of its educational programming.

This is a full time, salaried position including some weekend and evening hours; the position reports to the Executive Director. Education staff report to the DoE.

Responsibilities

  • The DoE will be responsible for guiding the growth and development of ELCCT’s diverse range of educational programming, adapt school programs to meet education standards, manage and mentor education staff, attract new audiences and direct the Indian Rock Summer Day Camp.
  • The DoE will assist in generating revenues through programs and develop and manage education and program budgets.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in environmental education, science, education, or related field, advanced degree preferred; extensive education experience with a range of ages, current or past certification in education preferred.
  • Highly motivated, energetic and organized with a demonstrated passion for education, nature and the outdoors.
  • Demonstrated leadership, administrative and communication skills including proficiency with computers and other technology.
  • Knowledge of Connecticut’s flora and fauna preferred.
