Position Overview

An internship at Xcel Energy will give you practical experience in the energy industry at a company that’s committed to excellence, safety and environmental stewardship. 

Xcel Energy is looking for interns to work during the Summer of 2018, with the opportunity to work part-time during the 2018-2019 school year.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Xcel Energy Environmental staff to conduct avian, fisheries, and aquatic studies at power plants in MN, WI, ND and SD. 
  • The position will involve collection, identification, weighing and measuring fish and other aquatic organisms. 
  • Enter collected data into spreadsheets, conduct statistical analysis of the data, and draft reports. 
  • Much of the time will be spent outdoors working in a variety of weather conditions, including inclement conditions, and on a non-typical work schedule including extended hours, nights and weekends. 
  • Through practical field experience and mentoring, successful candidate will gain significant professional and personal skills. 

Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled student, sophomore level or above, in Natural Sciences, Biology, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Sciences, or Environmental Engineering.
  • Minimum 2.50 GPA in a Bachelor’s degree program (transcripts must be provided).
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel to various work locations.
  • MS Office experience (Word and Excel) required.
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds repetitively throughout the day to complete necessary work tasks during field biological work.
