We pride ourselves on offering a bespoke holistic service incorporating ecology, historic and urban landscapes and project management, providing our clients with all the information required to make informed descisions.

Chris Damant MCIEEM has been involved in bringing forward large scale development of Milton Keynes, in areas such as Oakgrove, Middleton, Hazeley, Grange Farm and Kingsmead. Chris's input at the early design stages for wildlife conservation had added benefits of providing public greenspace and water management - this concept, now called Sustainable [Urban] Drainage Scheme (SuDS) is now routinely employed in development today.

Chris and his team of ecologists continue to provide expert knowledge of ecology and design principles for wildlife conservation today, and continue to develop innovative soultions alongside architects, quantity surveyors, hydrologists, landscape architects, archeologists, property curators and many others.

Position Overview

We are a small team looking to recruit two new team members: a full time permanent ecologist and a part time field ecologist.

This will be a fantastic opportunity for the right candidates to build on existing knowledge and skill set supported by motivated colleagues. Bernwood specialises in terrestrial ecology, aiming to work locally.

Qualifications

Ecologist

The successful candidates will:

  • Have prior experience of working in the industry, with priority given to those with consultancy experience
  • Have experience in protected species surveys (great crested newts, bats, reptiles, badgers and phase I/Preliminary Ecological Appraisals)
  • Hold a protected species survey license (great crested newts, bats etc.)
  • Will be self-driven and motivated, with personal achievement goals
  • Be a member of CIEEM
  • Have a good understanding of UK wildlife legislation, planning processes and the sector in general
  • Have experience of preparing European Protected Species Licences
  • Be competent in GIS (preferably QGIS), Microsoft basic packages (Word, Excel etc.) and ideally statistics packages such as R
  • Have a degree in a relevant discipline
  • Have a full driving license free of endorsements and own (or have use of) a car for work purposes

Field Ecologist

The successful candidates will:

  • Have a degree in a relevant discipline
  • Have prior experience of working in the industry (desirable)
  • Have experience in protected species surveys (great crested newts, bats, reptiles, badgers and phase I/Preliminary Ecological Appraisals) (desirable).
  • Will be self-driven and motivated, with personal achievement goals
  • Be a member of CIEEM or qualify for membership
  • Have an understanding of UK legislation, planning processes and the sector in general
  • Have experience in GIS (preferably QGIS), Microsoft basic packages (Word, Excel etc.) and ideally statistics packages such as R (desirable)
  • Have a full driving license free of endorsements and own (or have use of) a car for work purposes
