~ Since 1972 Lynn Canal Conservation (LCC) has been protecting ecosystem integrity in the Upper Lynn Canal of Southeast Alaska.. ~

LCC is the voice for conservation of wildlands and waters in the Chilkat Valley, home of the Alaska Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve and the world’s largest concentration of bald eagles. LCC has achieved many successes through educational presentations, collaboration with fishermen, recreation and tourism businesses, loggers, watershed councils, native tribes and other diverse local groups. 

Ongoing efforts include educating the community on the potential toxic impacts of a large scale mine in the Chilkat River watershed, advocating for responsible uses of the Haines State Forest, protecting fisheries resources, eagle preserve, and wilderness values from potentially damaging highway projects. and promoting wildlife friendly management of the helicopter ski industry in Haines.

Position Overview

  • Lynn Canal Conservation is currently seeking an Executive Director.
  • This is a three-quarter time year round position.
  • This position is overseen by an 11 member board of directors.
  • This a potential 3 – 5 year position depending on funding.

Responsibilities 

  • Issue advocacy, grant writing, website and social media maintenance and development, office management, membership outreach and development, organizing events and presentations and campaigns, community and governmental liaison, representing the organization at local meetings. 

Qualifications 

  • Excellent communication skills, public speaking, writing, community organizing, grant writing, and financial oversight.
  • Ability to work in a diverse community environment.
  • Knowledge of and or a degree in environmental policy.
  • Familiarity with Alaska conservation issues, state and federal regulations.
