~ The Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF) is “dedicated to the conservation of coastal habitats and aquatic resources on Sanibel and Captiva and in the surrounding watershed.” SCCF is seeking a dynamic, thoughtful leader to serve as its Chief Executive Officer and to provide inspiration and direction to conservation efforts focused on SCCF’s mission. ~

SCCF was founded in 1967 as a land trust with a goal of acquiring and conserving wetlands and coastal habitat on the barrier islands of Sanibel and Captiva. Today, SCCF is the largest private landowner on Sanibel and manages more than 1,200 acres on Sanibel and 600 acres on Captiva and other islands. Over the last 50 years, SCCF program areas have also grown to include:

  • Wildlife & Habitat Management
  • Marine Research Laboratory (new-2800 square feet)
  • Sea Turtle Research and Monitoring
  • Environmental Education
  • Native Landscapes & Garden Center
  • Natural Resource Policy

SCCF is particularly a leader in water quality monitoring in the Caloosahatchee watershed and Gulf of Mexico.

Position Overview

The CEO’s responsibilities will include strategy development, daily operations management, major donor fund raising, and articulation of SCCF positions on key conservation issues. She/he will benefit from a staff of 26 individuals, an operating budget of approximately $3 million and a growing Endowment. SCCF is a fiscally sound organization recognized with a Charity Navigator 4-Star rating.

The current Chief Executive Officer will be retiring after a successful 32 career with SCCF. This tenure speaks to the exceptional nature of this opportunity and the culture and character of the SCCF organization

Qualifications

SCCF is seeking a Chief Executive Officer with:

  • An understanding of Conservation issues relevant to the Sanibel-Captiva environment. Water quality and coastal resiliency knowledge would be particularly valued.
  • A track record of successfully Leading and Managing organizations of at least a modest size.
  • Fundraising experience and confidence in dealing with major donors.
  • Relationships with peers in Florida and/or leaders in the local area would be a plus but not required.
  • An advanced degree is required, preferably in a relevant science or conservation field.
