Position Overview
The Thermal Design Specialist (TDS) provides technical support for Solar Design Specialist team to accurately design and propose heating systems for our clients. This includes performing heat load/heat gain analysis, system sizing and unit combinations, hydronic and air distribution and pricing these systems. The (TDS) helps develop maintain standard installation practices and provides technical support to operations team for the highest quality installation of heat pump and hydronic and air heating systems for our Residential and Commercial clients.
The (TDS) also works directly with Purchasing Department, Thermal Operations Manager, ASHP Division Manager and Engineering team to select equipment and to secure pricing from distributors for system components. The (TDS) works in a customer facing role and operations support role and must be comfortable and effective in both environments.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and specify equipment and accessories for system installations
- Provide technical support for Solar Design Specialists and customers
- Provide technical support to Operations Managers by conducting post sales/pre installation review of projects
- Provide technical support to on site crews during installation and service
- Remain up to date on available hardware, and industry best practices through industry conferences, trade groups, magazines, etc.
- Evaluate client’s renewable energy goals and provide a comprehensive heating solution
- Provide our clients with a fantastic energy transition experience
- Generating new leads and business development in the community
Qualifications
- 5+ years installing and designing heating systems
- OSHA 10 hour
- B.A. / B.S. Degree
- Manufacturer specific certification/training
- MA/NH Master plumbing license
Critical Skills:
- Residential and light commercial Split systems
- Controls (relays, disconnect, thermostats, etc.)
- Light commercial and residential (furnaces, boilers, burners and related controls)
- Air to water and electric boilers install and design
- Humidifiers
- HRV install and design
- Heat load calculations
- Heat loss calculations
- Installation, design and maintenance of residential and small commercial HVAC systems
- Highly organized & have ability to multi-task and set priorities
- Competence in design of ASHP systems including refrigeration, electrical, controls and component specification.
- EPA Refrigerant Recovery Certification (“Type 1” minimum)
- Strong competence with computers including Excel, Word, e mail and web based applications
- Good at problem solving and working with tools
- Comfortably able to lift 40lbs, climb ladders, work with tools, work in crawl spaces, and work on high roof tops in varying hot and cold temperatures
- Effectively coordinate and communicate with others (customers and co workers)
- Ability to succeed in a fast paced, community environment; excellent teamwork skills and the ability to foster a positive team environment
