~ SunWork Renewable Energy Projects is a nonprofit in California's San Francisco Bay Area that installs solar electricity systems on small-energy-footprint homes with the help of trained volunteers. ~

Position Overview

SunWork Project Leads are responsible for all aspects of the installation from initial site assessment through system interconnection, including training our installation volunteers and ensuring a safe job site. This is a great role if you are passionate about the environment, you enjoy construction, and you’re looking to expand your breadth of experience in solar and in running a solar installation operation with extensive autonomy. Installations take place on weekends and each Project Lead is expected to complete 35-40 installs per year. The focus is on residential rooftop solar installations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform site visits, assessing the potential for solar installation and walking customers through the sale
  • Design simple 1 and 2 strings, or per-module microinverter or DC optimized residential PV systems
  • Submit for and obtain the permit from the local building department
  • Schedule the installation with the customer
  • Source all materials for the installation
  • Set up site safety prior to installation
  • Install the PV system with selected volunteers
  • Process rebate and interconnection paperwork
  • Bill the customer and collect payment
  • Provide on-the-job training for the volunteers

Qualifications

  • Desire for rooftop solar to flourish
  • Desire to train volunteer installers
  • Previous construction experience preferred
  • Understanding of building codes and the National Electrical Code
  • Ability to lead and manage a team
  • Embrace a culture of safety
  • Willing to work weekends
  • Electrical License, Contractor License or NABCEP Certification preferred/not required

Compensation

  • $52,500 a year
  • Medical – Platinum-Plan equivalent(the most generous of the four Affordable Care Act “metal" plans)
  • Flat $50/month to cover internet and cell phone expenses

Additional Information

  • Work Site Locations: Santa Clara County
  • Work Schedule: 5 days a week with installations over 2 days on Sat/Sun
  • Required experience: Solar installation and/or design experience, 2000 hours (1 year) minimum
