Position Overview

Georgia Power, a leading company in the energy industry, is offering an attractive opportunity for an environmental attorney in our Atlanta office. This position will provide legal support and direction for the Company on an array of environmental matters. This includes partnering with the company’s legal, environmental, natural resources, transmission, distribution, generation and other business units to develop the company’s legal strategy and response.

The successful candidate will work with outside counsel and employees at all levels within the company to provide advice and guidance. Candidate must have a comprehensive background in environmental law and possess exceptional judgment. The Georgia Power legal team consists of a strong team of legal professionals who serve to advance the company’s strategy while addressing legal risks to protect the integrity and reputation of the company.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day advice and strategic planning on environmental legal matters.
  • Assist with management of the legal budget and coordinate delivery of legal services from outside counsel.
  • Strong focus on inclusion, innovative thinking, and providing excellent customer service.
  • Identify opportunities to improve legal processes and operations.
  • Provide oversight of federal and state litigation on environmental matters.
  • Assist in handling regulatory and compliance matters.
  • Participate on committees developing environmental legal policy and strategy.
  • Effectively establish and maintain relationships with internal business partners and outside legal counsel.

Qualifications

Job Experience and Education:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in environmental law in a large, nationally recognized law firm, corporate legal department, or governmental agency.
  • Experience dealing with regulatory agencies is required.
  • Experience in litigation is required.
  • JD from an accredited law school is required.
  • Experience dealing with energy industry issues is strongly preferred.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams is preferred.

  • Ability to establish and build relationships with internal and external partners to maximize effectiveness.
  • Ability to quickly assess risks and communicate complex information in a simple and timely manner.
