Position Overview
Burns & McDonnell's Environmental Services Division currently has an opening in our Denver (Centennial) office for a Senior Environmental Scientist to join our team. This position is a senior position in our growing environmental practice in the western U.S.
Responsibilities
- The responsibilities include project and task management for the assessment of biological resources (e.g. wildlife, vegetation, wetlands, etc.).
- This may include conducting habitat assessments, species-specific presence/absence surveys, avian and bat studies, other species-specific studies for state & federal protected species, and the research and preparation of technical reports and permitting documents.
- Successful applicant will be responsible for participating in the strategic planning and business development efforts for our ES&P Division.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science or related degree from accredited program. Minimum 5 years related consulting experience in a wide variety of areas ranging from team development and management, project and program management, professional environmental services, and business development. experience (completion of master's degree in related field may be substituted for one year of experience).
- The successful candidate will have experience working with both private and public sector clients, with a strong track record of business development success in both sectors.
- They must also have significant experience in the areas of sustainability, air quality, environmental compliance, process design, energy management or related fields.
- Position requires a highly motivated entrepreneur with the following qualifications: Currently manages and has a proven record of building and diversifying an operation with public, commercial, or international customers while managing the growth and delivery of quality products and financial results. An established client base with the private sector and the government.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Passion to work for a company that values leadership, empowerment, flexibility, and an entrepreneurial spirit.
- Specific experience in electricity transmission, oil & gas, transportation, and other similar markets is preferred.
- Experience with the resources and regulatory agencies in the western U.S is a requirement.
- The successful candidate must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to collaborate and lead in a team setting.
- Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills are required along with the willingness to travel overnight and work extended hours in a field setting.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills preferred. B.S. or M.S. in environmental science or wildlife biology preferred and 5 to 8 years of experience with both wildlife studies and wetland (Section 404) delineations and permitting.
- The candidate must be able to demonstrate the ability to manage in a dynamic team environment, work under pressure to meet deadlines, and work effectively and professionally with various audiences (i.e., public officials, agency representatives, property owners, businesses, client, construction contractors, etc.).
