Description
~ The Columbia County Soil and Water Conservation District provides technical assistance and education on water, soil and related natural resources to municipalities, landowners and residents with the aim of facilitating conservation and proper land-use decision making. ~
Position Overview
Columbia County Soil and Water Conservation District is currently seeking an Educator/Natural Resource Specialist located at Columbia County SWCD, 1024 Route 66, Ghent, New York 12075.
The incumbent in this position works under the direction of the Executive Director and is responsible for educational program development and maintenance of the Mud Creek Environmental Learning Center (ELC). The ELC is a program division of the Columbia County Soil and Water Conservation District. This person will also have responsibilities associated with other SWCD program areas.
Responsibilities
- The Education Program Coordinator is responsible for developing all aspects of the Mud Creek ELC.
- These aspects include: educational program development, program presentation, nature interpretation, brochure development, exhibit development, design and development of interpretive trail improvements, garden maintenance, fishing education through our Hudson river program, program promotion, grant writing, and etc.
- This position will require the individual to work outdoors frequently and work some weekends and some evenings.
- This person may also spend up to 50% of their time completing duties associated with other SWCD program areas such as; assisting with the district's annual seedling sale fund raiser, grant writing, field survey, assisting the public with environmental concerns or questions, stream data collection, and etc.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in conservation, natural resources, environmental education, agriculture, forestry, natural history, biology or closely related field and 5 years of experience in natural resource conservation, biology, education, or a closely related field.
or
- Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with an applied associate's degree in conservation, natural resources, biology, agriculture, forestry, natural history, or closely related field and 10 years of experience in natural resource conservation, biology, education, or a closely related field.
or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience defined by the limits of "A" and "B" above.
KSA:
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Good research skills.
Strong knowledge of natural history, biology, ecology, or related field.
Other areas of expertise (e.g. graphic arts, illustration, trail development, gardening, farming, fishing) is a plus.
Compensation: $35,000.00 annually. Holidays, Sick Leave, Personal Leave, Health Insurance (for employee only), and participation in NYS Retirement System.
