About Laughlin Lab:

We study how plants function to understand where they grow, how they interact, and how they change the world.

Our work integrates ecophysiology and community dynamics to advance the theoretical foundations of ecology so that we can restore and manage wild landscapes in a rapidly changing world.

Position Overview

The Laughlin Lab in the Botany Department at the University of Wyoming is seeking applications for a two-year post-doctoral research associate to start in the Fall of 2017. The lab integrates community dynamics and ecophysiology to advance the theoretical foundations of ecology so that we can restore and manage wild landscapes in a rapidly changing world.

The successful applicant will have an opportunity to choose from a variety of exciting projects where data is already available for analysis; including, but not limited to, the impact of traits on plant fitness along experimental environmental gradients, the relationship between plant traits and decomposition rates across multiple organs for multiple species, and testing new modeling frameworks that integrate environmental filtering and species interactions.

We encourage applicants from under-represented groups in science and we place value in work-life balance. Nestled between the Snowy and Laramie Ranges, Laramie is a vibrant western town with a rich cultural history. This region of the Rocky Mountains offers ample opportunity for outdoor activities (e.g. hiking, mountain biking, skiing) and the elevation gradients provide a diversity of landscapes for exploration.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in Biology, Ecology, or related field.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience with processing and modeling complex datasets in R.
  • An understanding of experimental design, linear mixed models, and multivariate analyses.
  • And a keen interest in ecological theories that integrate plant functional traits, community ecology, and ecosystem processes.
