UQM Technologies, Inc. (UQM) has been awarded a $1.08 million contract supplement to an existing U.S. Air Force contract to convert a conventional one-half ton pickup truck to all-electric operation using an optimized configuration of currently available advanced technologies. The contract supplement expands the scope of work to add the development of an electronic motor/generator controller that utilizes high operating temperature silicon carbide power switching modules. The controller is being developed for the USAF Advanced Power Technology Office of the 542nd Combat Sustainment Wing at Robins Air Force Base in cooperation with the U.S. Army National Automotive Center and Mississippi State University. The USAF expect to field test the controller in at least one of the Air Force’s hybrid electric vans, buses and/or in the all-electric pickup truck powered by lithium ion batteries currently being built by the Company. The contract supplement increases the total contract value to $1.83 million and extends the expected completion date to March 31, 2007. Initial delivery and testing of the all-electric pickup truck will not be impacted by the contract supplement and is scheduled for March 2006. Commenting on the award, Jon Lutz, UQM Technologies’ Director of Engineering said, “This program is focused on […]

Xantrex Technology Inc. (TSX:XTX) inverters have been chosen by solar energy company, Generacion de Energias Alternativa, for a 360 kilowatt (kW) ground solar array installation in Crevillente, Alicante, Spain. This photovoltaic (PV) plant uses modules from the Spanish manufacturer Siliken. Siliken cooperated with Generacin de Energias Alternativas in the project plan and design of this installation which includes three Xantrex GT100E solar grid tie inverters and additional Xantrex products and accessories. Solar power is an attractive investment in Spain, as the Spanish feed-in tariff is 0.42 cents (Euro)/kWp, which is significantly higher than the price of electricity from conventional sources; therefore, the expected payback period for this installation is less than 10 years. “Xantrex is excited to be part of the growing solar market in Spain,” said Jim Harre, Xantrex Director of Sales for Europe. “Our GT Series inverters are becoming a leading choice for large-scale solar installations in Europe, and this installation demonstrates the versatility of the Xantrex GT Series. This product line includes the 100 kilowatt (kW) Xantrex GT100E and the 500 kW Xantrex GT500E for the industrial market, as well as our new range of high quality grid tie inverters for residential and commercial installations.” The GT100E […]
