SatCon Launches 500kw PV Inverter

SatCon Technology Corporation (Nasdaq NM: SATC), a developer and manufacturer of power electronics and motors for the alternative energy markets, announced it has launched its 500kW PowerGate(TM) inverter. This was one of SatCon’s major R&D milestones for 2006, and positions SatCon as the leading provider of high efficiency inverters for the rapidly growing solar markets. The 500kW AE-500-60-PV-A utility-grade PV inverter is listed to the UL 1741 Standard and received approval from the California Energy Commission (CEC). The acceptance of this inverter by the various agencies not only gives SatCon the largest commercial PV inverter in North America, it also gives SatCon the broadest product line in the commercial photovoltaic inverter market – ranging from 30kW to 500kW – with 13 designs now approved and listed by the Consumer Energy Center. Hain Celestial Announces Partnership With Madison Square Garden

The Hain Celestial Group, Inc. Austin Energy?s Green Power Rate Dips Below That of Conventional Power

After competitive bidding on the open market, the price of Austin Energy’s GreenChoice green power program has become cheaper than Austin Energy’s conventional electricity. This appears to be the third time in the last two months that a U.S. utility has found that competitively-bid clean energy is coming in cheaper than electricity generated with a mix of coal, natural gas, and nuclear power. Austin Energy has the nation’s largest clean energy program of any publicly-owned utility. Because of the lower price and a limited supply for this newest purchase of clean energy, the Austin City Council voted to hold a raffle for an account in the GreenChoice program. The drawing will take place in March and will be open to all Austin Energy customers. Escalating natural gas prices have pushed up the fuel charge for electric utilities across the nation. Due to these increases, the fuel charge for Austin Energy’s standard portfolio of coal, natural gas, and nuclear power has increased to 3.63/kWh. By contrast, the price of GreenChoice has come in at 3.5/kWh for residential customers who subscribe to the latest GreenChoice offering.
