World's Largest Solar Photovoltaic Project to be Built in Nevada

Powered by Renewables (PBR) of Nevada will partner with SunEdison of Maryland to develop the world’s largest solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Nevada. The 18 megawatt (MW) project almost doubles what is currently the world’s largest PV project (10MW) located in Germany. PBR and SunEdison will develop a total of 36 MWs of PV projects in Nevada, enough energy to power 36,000 homes. Construction in Clark County is expected to begin in July and at other sites in early 2007. “I’m pleased that PBR and SunEdison are teaming up to develop a world-class solar project using Nevada’s unrivaled solar resources,” said U.S. Senator Harry Reid. “These are the kinds of ventures we hope to repeat across the West, and the nation, as part of our drive for energy independence by 2020.” “Energy independence is an important strategy for our military,” said Tim Carlson, PBR’s President. “Because our project is powered by the sun, it reduces our dependence on foreign oil. Wave Energy Companies Selected for UK Wave Hub

The South West of England Regional Development Agency (RDA) has named three development partners for the proposed GBP 15M [USD$26M] Wave Hub project, to create the world’s first wave energy farm. The Wave Hub, an electrical ‘socket’ on the seabed, would be located 10 miles off the coast of Cornwall, and connected to the National Grid via an underwater cable. Wave energy devices would be connected to the Wave Hub, allowing device manufacturers to carry out large-scale testing of their machines before going into commercial production. Work on the Wave Hub is expected to commence next year. Nick Harrington, Wave Hub Project manager at the South West RDA, said: “We have chosen three companies that are sufficiently advanced with their devices, have the resources to deliver their projects and are committed to working with stakeholders in Cornwall through the Cornwall Sustainable Energy Partnership to capture the economic benefits of Wave Hub for Cornwall and the South West region. “All three have developed very different technologies and will form a core group with which we can move forward.
