Ballard Delivers Prototypes of 3rd Generation Residential Fuel Cell

Ballard Power Systems Inc. (TSX:BLD.TO; NasdaqNM:BLDP) has delivered the first prototypes of its next generation fuel cell, the Mark 1030 V3, for the residential cogeneration market to EBARA BALLARD Corporation (Ballard’s Japan-based joint venture with the EBARA Corporation). The prototypes are for integration and testing in 1 kW residential cogeneration systems. Featuring increased reliability and lifetime, with significantly less weight and volume, the Mark 1030 V3 fuel cell has been designed in alignment with the 2008 Japanese government targets of 40,000 hours operation, equivalent to a system lifetime of 10 years in the home. Key features of the Mark 1030 V3 fuel cell include: 1) Full compatibility with both natural gas and kerosene fuel cell cogeneration systems. 2) 40% lighter in weight than the previous generation. 3) 26% smaller than the previous generation. GreenShift Gets $22M for New Biofuels Division

Cornell Capital Partners is infusing GreenShift Corporation (OTCBB: GSHF) with $22 million for it new AgriFuels division, GS AgriFuels, which will build a 45 million gallon per year biodiesel production facility. “Cornell Capital is a great supporter of biofuels and renewable energy in general,” said Kevin Kreisler, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of GreenShift. GreenShift recently sold its wholly-owned subsidiary, Mean Green BioFuels, Inc., to another GreenShift subsidiary, Hugo International Telecom, Inc. (HGOT.OB) Hugo is an 80% owned subsidiary of GreenShift that has been inactive to date. Hugo will be re-named “GS AgriFuels Corporation” early next quarter in connection with these transactions. Under the investment agreements, Cornell Capital will purchase 5% debentures in GS AgriFuels (Hugo) totaling $22 million that are convertible into GS AgriFuels (Hugo) common stock at a price of $3.00 per share. Cornell Capital provided an initial $5,500,000 of this amount at the closing, and will provide the balance of the investment in a series of tranches tied to GS AgriFuels’ satisfaction of key benchmarks in its development schedule. ENER Announces Potentially Transformative Device

Energy Conversion Devices, Inc. Color Kinetics Awarded Federal Grant to Advance LED Lighting

Color Kinetics Incorporated (Nasdaq: CLRK), a leading LED lighting systems and technologies company, has been awarded approximately $1.7 million by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to develop an LED-based alternative to incandescent lamps for general illumination. Color Kinetics is one of five companies, including General Electric, Eastman Kodak, Osram Sylvania and SRI International, to be awarded a share of $7 million in this round of DOE funding for LED-based solid-state lighting. Color Kinetics’ proposal, “An Integrated Solid-State LED Luminaire for General Lighting,” aims to develop replacement lamps for 60-watt incandescent light sources that, with a four-fold increase in efficacy to 80-lumens per watt, would meet or exceed the efficacy of nearly all conventional light sources. Furthermore, on a fixture efficiency basis, the proposed lamp may have the capability to provide more useful light than conventional fixtures and sources. This is due to the directional nature of LEDs, which minimizes the loss of light within fixtures. Martek's DHA Oil Approved in Canada for Foods

Canadians may soon find it easier than ever to get healthy omega-3 fatty acids in their diets. Martek Biosciences Corporation (MATK) DHASCO-T oil has been approved by Health Canada for use as a food ingredient. The approval is for per serving levels of not less than eight mg and not more than 100 mg of DHA, an important omega-3 fatty acid. Martek DHA has been approved for use in infant formula in Canada since 2002. Martek’s DHASCO-T oil contains the long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acid DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), the key omega-3 fatty acid for brain and eye development and function. Numerous scientific studies demonstrate that people of all ages, from infants to adults, may benefit from an adequate supply of DHA in the diet. Yet, despite its importance, natural food sources of DHA are limited primarily to fatty fish, making it difficult for many people to get enough DHA in their diets.
