American Superconductor Corp (NASDAQ: AMSC), a leading energy technologies company, announced today that its Windtec subsidiary has sold a license in China worth potentially $30 million. Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Research Institute (ZELRI), a division of China-Southern-Loric, will license Windtec’s Model WT1650 wind energy system for an upfront fee of $2 million and royalty payments. ZELRI develops and sells electric drive systems for locomotives and inverter technologies for industrial and civil use. “China needs more renewable energy sources to power generation to meet the needs of our rapidly-growing, technology-driven society,” said Du Jinsong, general manager of ZELRI’s wind power business unit. “To achieve this goal ZELRI aims to become a leading manufacturer of wind energy systems, and Windtec’s services and electrical systems are integral to our success in the market. With Windtec’s assistance, we plan to demonstrate our WT1650 prototypes late in 2007 and begin full-scale production of the units in 2008.” Under the terms of the contract, ZELRI is gaining rights to manufacture, use and sell Windtec’s 1.65 megawatt (MW) Model WT1650 wind energy system in China. An innovative partnership between Karcher USA, Sam’s Club and TerraPass will balance out an estimated two years of greenhouse gas emissions from use of the Karcher G 3025 BH pressure washer and encourage purchasers to use the pressure washer for climate change fighting projects around the home. Balancing carbon emissions involves calculating the global warming emissions from an activity and then balancing them out by reducing emissions elsewhere. TerraPass purchases support emissions reductions through domestic wind farms, “cow-power” projects, and energy efficiency projects. Industry research shows pressure washers are already an environmentally friendly product, because they use less water than traditional hoses. They also are crucial for energy savings projects like cleaning heat pump coils. But they also run on gasoline and emit carbon dioxide, the principal greenhouse gas responsible for global warming. “Providing our members with tools or other merchandise for their homes or businesses that deliver an environmental benefit is exciting. We are pleased to be offering this product at Sam’s Club nationwide,” said Jason Kidd, Merchandise Manager, Hardware […]
