Canadian Solar Inc. (NasdaqGM:CSIQ) has signed an annual sales and distribution contract with pro solar Solarstrom GmbH in Germany. It has an estimated annual value of approximately $30 to $40 million in 2007. CSI will supply to pro solar Solarstrom its high-quality photovoltaic solar modules, in particular the newly certified model CS6P-210, which yields 210-240 W electrical output from a single module. “pro solar Solarstrom is one of the most successful solar electric system providers and wholesalers for photovoltaics in Germany, as well as an existing CSI customer. Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd. (NYSE: STP), a leading photovoltaic manufacturer, has established Suntech Europe Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary, to expand its customer base as well as to deepen the service and support offered to its customers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The headquarters for Suntech Europe will be in London with sales offices expected to be opened in key cities in the region commencing in 2007. Suntech has been actively selling its products into Europe which accounts for the majority of its revenues over the past five years. Its newly acquired subsidiary, MSK Corporation has also generated significant revenue from sales in Europe over the course of its 20 years selling PV products. Lignol Energy Corporation (TSX: LEC) (formerly Santa Cruz Ventures Inc.) commenced trading after completing the acquisition of Lignol Innovations Corporation, and a private placement of $5 million. The Company has acquired and modified a solvent based pre-treatment technology originally developed by a subsidiary of General Electric. This technology was applied in the pulp industry by Repap Enterprises Inc., at a cost of over $100 million. Lignol acquired this technology, plant data and related engineering together with the original GE pilot plant that is now being integrated with recently developed process capabilities to convert cellulose to ethanol. The financing will fund the completion of Lignol’s pre-commercial work plan and be used to acquire equity ownership in energy-related projects that have synergies with Lignol’s biorefining technology and corporate mission. With the support of Sustainable Development Technology Canada and specific interested corporations, the pre-commercial work plan should deliver a technical design for a commercial biorefining plant capable of producing fuel grade ethanol and a variety of biochemical co-products from hardwood, softwood and a variety of agricultural residues.
