Position Overview:

We are seeking a capable, enthusiastic Utility Applications Engineer for our Solaron® line of solar PV inverters, power stations, and SCADA solutions. This position provides technical consulting and industry influence on AC transmission & distribution systems, distributed generation (DG) plants, low and medium voltage standards, and installation of large-scale solar PV sites.

Customer interactions span pre-sales discussions, design tradeoffs, installation guidance, and specialized site support. As a result of extensive and constant engagement with customers, he or she will also bring information about industry, customer, application, and competitive trends back to the factory, influencing future product development.

Responsibilities:

Consultant for utility-scale solar power stations:

  • Help sales team and customers improve designs of large solar PV power plants
  • Communicate advantages of AE solutions to technically sophisticated customers
  • Provide expertise on high-power, medium-voltage AC applications
  • Analyze, model, and recommend improvements using PVSyst, PSEE or other tools
  • Answer specialized customer inquiries &/or delegate to other applications engineers
  • Provide interactive guidance to field service personnel to resolve issues
  • Feed lessons and insights back to development teams for future products

Liaison for Utility Partnerships:

  • Know and navigate IPP, IOU & POU organizations
  • Form and manage collaborative relationships
  • Apply experience in transmission and distribution system
  • Ethically apply knowledge of business models and best practices

Leadership and Industry Influence:

  • Provide expertise on electrical standards for high power, medium-voltage applications
  • Influence proposals and standards that enable adoption of utility-scale solar PV
  • Periodically publish inspiring whitepapers or articles
  • Serve as member in one or more key industry organizations (IEEE, EPRI, others)
  • Present at seminars, panels, or other industry forums

Qualifications:

Education:

  • BSEE, or BS Engineering with Electrical PE
  • Graduate degree in high power &/or equivalent professional training

Experience:

  • 5 to 10 years in AC power generation, transmission, &/or distribution applications
  • Specific employment with IPP, POU, RPA, EPC, or similar high-power electrical company
